♫ Fiiiive, Blog Entries! Four Sources, Three Works Cited, Two Websites; And A Giant Paper To Turn In By Friday! ♪(to the tune of 12 days of Christmas)

टुडे I worked on my bibliography for my paper (duh). Then I started writing my rough draft on Microsoft Word; starting a paper always stumps me. I mean, a graphic organizer helps, but in order to get the ideas and words flowing, you have to have a thinking cap. I don't have one of those. I have thinking food. Another word for it would be candy. If I could have used my class time on a special "do-over" day, I would've started the first 2 paragraphs, and save the bibliography-making for last. I am very pleased to report that I hunted everything down to get the proper citation format; I wrote it down with the guide of Ms. Long's How to Create a Works Cited Page/Bibliography Reference Sheet. I used Easy Bib, but only after I had written the correct citation in my notes. THANK YOU, EASY BIB!!!

The plan for tomorrow: finish my first page in my research paper. Honestly, I am much better at Creative Writing than anything; it's my own plot, I'm hardly limited in terms of format and guidelines, and I don't have to sound very formal. Also, it gives me the excuse to eat a lot more thinking food! In the meantime, it is time to move on to my paper. This is my closing blog entry for this assignment; I may use this blog for another assignment in the future, but my clairvoyance is telling me probably not. So long, blog!

Day Quatro of Research

I didn't feel as productive today as I was the past 3 days. First off, I had to track down the books I found to gather facts from, since I needed to present notes and 4 sources to Ms. Long for a grade. Secondly, I still had no idea what my picture was about. Every time I typed something into the keyword box on Bing, all it came up with was a short biography on Evita--not what was actually happening in the picture. If I had to relive this day, I would have finished my notes in homeroom and started working on the actual paper. As far as productivity, I could have either started the paper already, or finished my notes. Apparently I chose the latter. I feel just the slightest bit behind in terms of getting this done and done correctly in a timely manner; just gotta keep on pluggin' away. . .

Third Day of Research

As mentioned previously, my class and I went to the library again. I ended up not looking on the internet so much; by tomorrow, we must have 4 different types of sources. So far, I have 6 sources. 3 of them are websites and 1 was from the information my dad gave me on the photo, which I cited as a personal interview. In order to find the other two different types of sources, I had to do some digging around with Mrs. Gilliam, my librarian. She helped me find some books about Argentina in the 900s Section of the Research area, and showed me a brief article in an encyclopedia. I am incredibly frustrated that I cannot find the "what, when, where, and why" part of the picture. I only know the "who." I need to start writing my paper soon, and I only have 1 week to do so.

One unhelpful source was another book about Argentina; it simply restated the known facts of the first book I found into a vague paragraph. If I could find an entire page or book about Evita, I will be one very happy girl. In the meantime, the plan for tomorrow is to present my sources to Ms. Long, and start a rough draft of my paper. Sadly, I dislike rough drafts. They only slow me down, and if I only have a week to write this, I don't know where it will get me. Onward to the search engines. . .

♪ On the Second Day of Research, This is How I Did. . .♫ (To the Tune of 12 Days of Christmas)

Today, my class went to the school library, and will be doing so for the next week. I found a book on Argentina. As I was skimming through the government chapter of the book, I came across the "Peron Rule" heading. Unfortunately, it was mainly about Juan Peron, Maria Eva's husband, the president of Argentina back then. I found a footnote about Eva, but that's it. My plans for tomorrow are to find a source about significant women who had an impact on the world in the mid 20th century, and look through encyclopedias. Hopefully Eva (I may refer to her as Evita) will be in one. . . I felt like today I did just ok in research. I found the one book (every other one was just about the country Argentina), and browsed more websites. I really hope I can snag a great video or old newspaper article about Evita, and not just be limited to a library! I am very proud of my book discovery, as it is I almost always use the Internet as a resource for PAPERS like this. (That "PAPERS" was for you, Ms. Long!) I feel like a super-sleuth now--what clue will I find next?

Day Uno of Research

When I started this I was like, "What the heck is this picture supposed to be?!" I literally had absolutely no idea. Everyone I asked had the same assumptions that I did; that it was a woman winning something or celebrating some big event back in the day. I knew it was a "back in the day" picture due to the fact that there was a giant, chunky microphone in the background. See, I can be a detective, too! :) Whatever nation this woman was in/from, what was happening, why she seemed happy--the answer eluded me. Thus, my sleuthing skills on the World Wide Web had begun.

During dinner, I showed my dad the picture and asked him if he knew what in the world it was. His response was: "Oh that's easy. That's Evita from Argentina; Don't cry for me, Argentina!" Mom, my older sister, and I were all flabbergasted at his easy response. I will definitely cite him in my paper! My sister and Mom were both on the right track, thinking it had to do with something political, and of a different nation. I thought that as well. Afterwards, I browsed a few websites. After getting the information I needed from Dad, I used keywords like peron/Argentina, July 1952, July 26, First Lady Argentina. It really helped. Tomorrow's plan: consult Mrs. Gilliam, my librarian, and find (hopefully) some books about Eva Duarte de Peron.
